Rights Field

I came across a question... after searching the forum I didn't find any info on the project field, 'rights', under Edit Project > Publishing. The tool tip says, "Publication rights for the content".

I was just wondering what it is. And if it's something that you can use to allow specific upload/download rights for specific users or something like that.

Hi - that tool tip is just the Joomla default language definition for 'JFIELD_METADATA_RIGHTS_DESC'. It's the same tool tip you see on the core Joomla extensions publishing fields. Let us know questions. Thanks!

Sorry... not too concerned about the tooltip. Guess I wasn't very clear. I was wondering what the rights field was for. Or maybe just an example?

Hi - the publishing option is simply to publish or unpublish an item to display on the site. Same as Joomla core content - if you unpublish a project, it will not show up in the results on the front end unless you have admin privileges. If you set the publish up/publish down dates, the item will only display within that up and down time frame.

I still don't think we're on the same page, Vinny. The field is under the publishing tab, but is not the 'start publishing', 'stop publishing', or 'publish/unpublish' field. It's the 'rights' field. I looked at an article to compare and they do have a field that's called 'content rights'. And if you look at that tooltip, it says, "describe what rights others have to use this content". But the one in articles is a text area instead of a text field. Is this text field the same as the somewhat similar text area in the articles? If you're not sure where the field is that I'm talking about, it's right under the 'robots' dropdown. That's the only thing anywhere in Joomla that is similar to the field I'm talking about.

I thought I would answer my own question in case anyone else was wondering what the heck 'rights' are in Joomla. As you said, Vinny, it is used in the publishing options of the Joomla article pages. Sorry if I just confused you asking about this, but the Joomla documentation on it is almost non-existent. Here's what I found...

Content Rights. (Only present in Joomla v1.6.x and later.) Text added here appears in web page headers as the “rights” metadata entry. If appropriate, describe here what rights others have to use this content. This metadata entry is omitted from web pages if this entry is blank.
