celticowboy created the topic: CB Integration Necessary
A year ago someone suggested Community Builder integration - there was never a response, and comments on that request were disabled - are you inable to integrate the apps, or just not plan to do so, and in either case, why don't you answer posts?
For the record, I in general do not care to pay for extensions to a free product - they defeat the purpose of OpenSource, however, would probably make an exception for WorkForce IF it would integrate with other major extensions - specifically Community Builder. WHEN it integrates, I will suggest my clients who need it pay the subscription cost.
It also needs to become Joomla 1.6 compatible - I, like many, will not use legacy mode as it slows the system and defeats many of the reasons for upgrade.

Hi-- comments on the earlier request are not disabled, and the topic is not locked-- you probably were simply not logged in when you tried to comment?
We rarely respond to feature request posts, since we add these ideas to our build list and then look for other users to "second" the post and add more information as needed. Since you and that original poster are the only ones who have called for CB integration, perhaps it's not as urgent a feature for our users as you may believe.
We've posted our comments on Joomla 1.6 in an announcement (
). There is no legacy mode in Joomla 1.6-- and we believe that to put a production site on a new platform like Joomla 1.6 at this time is probably unwise. That said, we will provide Joomla 1.6 support in the near future.
Finally-- Open Source does not mean free-- and if the many developers who make their living working on extensions to Joomla were not able to charge for their work, the Joomla community would be far less robust and therefore far less capable of providing people who sell Joomla sites a living as well.

I appreciate the quick response. While I understand the need to make money, Open Source does often mean free, as Joomla itself is. When my clients are paying, I can suggest they buy some extensions, but much of my work is for non-profits, and I use open source for those projects precisely because of the non-cost. Joomla must be making money somehow, or it wouldn't be as viable and robust as it is - I don't know how, maybe through advertising, but they do, and I have found no CMS systems that cost money that are near as good or as extensible for low to no cost as Joomla, but that is not the main point of the request.
Mayhaps only two people have requested integration, I firmly believe many more would welcome this. CB is the most popular of the social network adaptations for Joomla, and is the most integrated of all extensions. I chose ProjectFork for my clients over other options, yours included, precisely because of this integration. It should be a matter of a simple plugin, but I'm not a developer, I am a designer and website builder.
As to 1.6, migrating to it now that it is in final release is almost necessary for the simple reason that the later releases of 1.5 were, and are, deeply flawed. Many people lost the ability to login to their sites after minor upgrades, and this problem was more denied than corrected, and the reason is simple - developers are now working on 1.6 and don't want to spend time on fixing out-of-date versions. I read the article over at Rocket-theme you refer to, and noticed it was refuted by users and Joomla team developers - it was also written whils 1.6 was still in beta or pre-final status. As with the transition to 1.5, I am moving all my sites to 1.6 as fast as possible. 1.5 was faster and more secure than 1.4, and 1.6 is already better, from what I've seen, than 1.5 on all issues.
I do appreciate your work, and would have my clients subscribe to WorkForce, and possibly to Project Log, if they were integrated with Community Builder. Since the death of Staff Master, there is a serious lack in staff presentation extensions for Joomla, yours being the only one I am familiar with. Probably I will have to pay a programmer to adapt a directory developed for another purpose for this need. I do hope you can find a way to integrate with CB, and to move to 1.6 as soon as possible. As you say, there is no legacy plugin for 1.6, and I am not the only one moving forward.
Thanks again for your response and for the work you do. I appreciate it even if I am unable at this point to use any of your software.
