I don't think we've ever tried using SQL Server as the backend for Joomla 2.5-- though we have written the product using the Joomla DB abstraction objects, so theoretically this should work.
I would say that this may be a bit risky, since I've read a lot of threads in the Joomla dev news and support forums that suggest the SQL Server solution is a bit shaky-- but we will be glad to validate this and if you have problems they will either be due t Joomla bugs, or legacy code in our product which we will be glad to work through and fix.
